Capsules was originally created in 1962, and written
by a doctor. I read it faithfully as a teenager
in my hometown newspaper in Sequim, Washington.
Little did I know at the time that I would one
day be selected by United Features Syndicate to
take over the feature when the cartoonist retired
at the age of 92.
I write and draw the feature, which appears
daily in newspapers at home and abroad. I had
no idea that my years of nutritional studies
would pay off in such a way.
It’s exciting to get e-mails from all over
the world now... Paraguay, Mexico, Somalia,
as well as the United States and Canada. I got
one yesterday from a student in Bangladesh who
mentioned that he reads Health Capsules everyday
in The Times of India. I would never imagined
this scenario as a kid.
